Composting Rules
The guidelines for the Springwoods MUD composting
program have been updated.
Springwoods MUD has worked with the contractor to try to
make the process easier for the residents. PAPER BAGS
may now be used to place compostable materials at the
curb. The contractor will be assisting all residents
that utilize the paper bags by having their crew empty
the bags into the compost truck as part of the normal
route pickup procedures. This applies ONLY to PAPER bags
not plastic. If the bags can be reused, the contractor
will leave the bags, if they are not in usable
condition, they will take the bags and dispose of them.
Subsequently, we will no longer be red-tagging these
(paper bags) as violations.
SPRINGWOODS MUD DISTRICT Green Gold Community Composting Program Procedures Effective June 1, 2008
The Green Gold Community Composting Program is a joint
effort between Wells Branch and Springwood Municipal Utility
Districts to give residents an efficient way to recycle
their grass clippings, leaves, landscape plants, small twigs
and tree branches & limbs. Please help us be a greener
neighborhood by adhering to the simple procedures outlined
below:
1. Grass Clippings,
leaves, landscape plants and small twigs should be
placed only in the provided Green Gold Compost Buckets
or PAPER bags
and placed at the curbside by 8 AM on the designated
pickup day. The paper bags will be
emptied but not taken because they clog the equipment.
2. Tree branches & limbs should be stacked neatly at the
curbside by 8 AM on the designated pickup day. Tree
branches and limbs should be cut into 6-foot lengths and
stacked no higher than 4 feet at the curb.
3. Residents should have their compostable materials at
curbside by 8 AM on Mondays for Wells Branch and 8 AM on
Wednesdays for Springwood. There will be no compost
pickup during the week between Christmas and New Years.
4. The Community Composting Crew and Truck will
circulate through the District to first collect all
buckets of compostable materials. Once all Green Gold
Compost Buckets are collected the crew and truck will
circulate through the District again to collect all
normal amounts of tree branches and limbs. Live
Christmas Trees may be dropped off at designated
locations in the parks or placed at your curbside.
Christmas trees should be bare of all decorations and
flocking.
5. Should a particular resident have an over abundance
of compostable materials (more than 8 buckets or large
piles of branches and limbs) the crew will first collect
the normal amount from that resident and the remaining
residents in the District, then if time permits return
to collect the balance of the excessive materials.
During periods of extra high volume or inclement
weather, the excess materials may not be collected until
the following week or weeks.
6. Materials other
than those described above, will not be collected.
If material is placed in paper bags, the bags will be emptied but NOT
taken. Items
placed in plastic bags, or other containers
will not be collected.
7. The Green Gold Community Composting Program is for
the exclusive use of Wells Branch and Springwood
residents only. Materials placed at the curbside that
have not originated from a residential property within
the District or are the result of a commercial service
will not be collected.
8. Remember the compost crew will not pickup materials
placed at the curbside by commercial tree, landscaping,
construction or other companies, so be sure to have
those services include the cost of removing such
materials in their proposal.
Remember These Simple
Procedures
1. Place your grass
clippings, leaves, landscape plants and small twigs at
the curbside in the provided Green Gold Buckets by
8:00 AM on your designated day (Wells Branch on Monday
and Springwood on Wednesday). If you
use paper bags, the bags will be emptied but NOT taken
as they clog the equipment.
2. Place your tree branches and limbs that are cut into
6-foot lengths and neatly stacked no more than 4 foot
high at the curbside.
3. The following materials will not be collected: rocks,
root balls, soil, sand, gravel, lumber, fencing, trash,
food, dead animals, and anything other than the items
described in number 1 and 2 above.
4. Using the provided Green Gold Buckets
is preferred. If material is
placed in paper bags, the bags will be emptied but NOT
taken. Items
placed in plastic bags, or other containers
will not be collected.
5. Wells Branch MUD curbside pickup begins at 8:00 a.m.
on Mondays.
6. Springwood MUD curbside pickup begins at 8:00 a.m. on
Wednesdays.
7. Remember if you have an overabundance of buckets or
piles of limbs, the compost crew will only collect a
normal amount that week, returning each week and
collecting a normal amount until the overabundant
materials are removed. If your materials were the result
of a commercial service, those materials will not be
collected.
8. A Red Tag noting a rule violation will be placed on
any materials that are not suitable for composting or
that are improperly placed at the curbside.
9. If you need to replace any lost or damaged buckets or
make a first request for buckets please call Wells
Branch or Springwood at 251-9814 to place an order. Once
a request for new Green Gold Buckets has been received,
the buckets will be delivered to your home during the
next week's curbside pickup schedule.
Since bags are no longer allowed to put materials in,
you may request up to 10 composting buckets per home,
call the number above to request the extra buckets.
For a more timely response to
your community composting questions, needs, or replacement
buckets please call 251-9814.
